I’ve been back in Taiwan for a few weeks after 6 years in Singapore.
Some things have changed while some are exactly the same.

The name "Chinese taipei" said it all ……
ISO 3166-2 International Organization for Standardization ISO code. Retrieved 2020-08-26. Short name TAIWAN, PROVINCE OF CHINA. taiwan is included as a subdivision of China because of its political status within the United Nations, as, even though it is de facto under the jurisdiction of the Republic of China instead of the People's Republic of China, the United Nations does not recognize the Republic of China and considers taiwan as part of China. In ISO 3166-1, taiwan is listed as "Taiwan, Province of China"

If you believe in democracy and respect to human right, then Taiwan is the right country to live. Singapore is just another version of China, cleaner , richer, what else ? NOTHING !!!!!!

Singaporeans are mostly kind and good people, but the political and social system and the PAP government are not what an advanced society should have been!

If you're a Singaporean or an expat, you wouldn't dare to go to the so called "Speaker's Corner" to stand on the soap box to criticize the policies of the PAP! I implore you!

If you know Singapore well enough, you should know that it's a law regulating all high-rise buildings, especially those public housing buildings, have to repaint its walls/appearance every 6 or 7 years. This law guarantees the fancy looking of those buildings, but not inside of the apartments! If you live Singapore long enough, you'd find that there's no advertisement of paints whatsoever at all, because they don't need to advertise, with this law, it's a guaranteed sale!

Singapore is not a democracy… and I wonder if you had lived in a apartment of public housing, you'd know that what inside the apartment is not the same as what it looks like from outside.

Check out those Southeast Asian grocery stores usually located around traditional wet markets. That’s where Southeast Asian immigrants like to shop.

I had plans to visit Taiwan for a long time, I had planned it in 2020, but then the covid kicked in. I dont know how this video was recommended to me, but maybe Taiwan is calling. 🙂

As for traffic, even the Taiwanese locals rant about the driving behaviour here. People in Taiwan generally follow rules well except traffic rules.

I think simply put, both the pros and cons of Singapore is being too manicured. There's a certain conformity in how the city is planned (green streets, uniformed and well-maintain buildings, etc), but that little bit of chaos would be a welcome change to allow for fresh air in our "stale" environment.

If you live in Hsinchu, you can try Hukou (湖口) or areas with South Eastern Asian workers, they typically have shops that sell the SEA cooking ingredients

You know if you have a recorder equipped on your car, you can send the video to the police to report that idiot BMW driver, he'll get a good fine.

I am so envious of you 😘 I am a Taiwanese and just moved from Singapore to the US couple of weeks ago. I haven’t gotten any chance to visit Taiwan since this pandemic 😌 Hope you stay there longer this time and enjoy it 🙂

You don't seem to realize that you've just plonked yourself into a war zone and if you are into plane spotting the best spot would be the Taiwan Straits where the newest PLAAF stealth fighters does their daily fly-past.
