while the Confederacy split from the Union, Taiwan has never been part of the PRC. Taiwan was a Japanese territory until the signing of San Francisco Peace Treaty in which Japan gave up claims over Taiwan. So Taiwan has belonged to the Taiwanese people ever since and nobody else.

The Chinese Civil War 1945-1949 (People's Republic of China, Republic of China) PRC vs. ROC has not ended, it can only be resolved by war! Reference to the American Civil War 1861-1865 (United States of America, Confederate States of America) USA vs. CSA, the greatest president of the United States, Lincoln, resolutely defend the United States with war! In 2005, the "Anti-Secession Law" passed by the PRC against the ROC and the "Anti-Secession Law" adopted by the USA against the CSA in 1861 are essentially the same. With this law, If Taiwan wants to be independent, the mainland China is certainly like USA 158 years ago. Just like what US's president Lincoln did!
