TAIWAN TRAVEL DIY | Day 2 | Travel Vlog

TAIWAN TRAVEL DIY | Day 2 – We’re all set and ready to explore Taiwan! Welcome to Day 2 of our trip. This time, we decided to check out Ximending district and to see the Red House. Ximending is a place to be when you visit Taiwan. You’ll see towering buildings around you but despite the overwhelming view of modernism, you’ll still see the Chinese culture in every corner. We were able to visit the Red House which was erected more than 100 years ago. We saw temples and various Chinese architecture from old buildings and even the walls. It was a great experience to see and experience modernity and tradition rolled into one!

Next stop, we went to the most prominent historical landmark in Taiwan, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. It was built in honor and memory of Chiang Kai-shek, former president of the Republic of China. My friends, this place is humongous. It is like a mansion surrounded by gardens with trees and flowers. The white building is octagon-shaped that rises 76 meters and is covered with blue tiles and red accents, echoing the flag of the Republic of China. There is meaning in every detail of the building from the number of steps, to the designs, etc. I also wondered about the 3 Chinese words above the statue. The characters are read “Ethics”, “Democracy”, and “Science”! These were his contributions to the nation.

Then, we visited Taipei 101! It was great to see the building that was once officially classified as the world’s tallest from its opening in 2004 until the 2010 completion of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The inside was gorgeous. It’s a building and a mall at the same time. It was a little expensive to go to the top of the building. Some of us went to see it but I decided not to, not because I am afraid of heights but I was working on a shoe-string budget. But, hey! It’s still a wonderful experience! It’s one thing I’d like to do when I visit Taiwan again!

Then we ended our day 2 tour with a food trip in one of the famous night markets in Taiwan – the Raohe Night Market. Similar to Shilin, this market is so huge and super busy! If you like to try Taiwanese food of various kinds, this is one good place to visit!
