Tensions rise as Taiwanese president hits out at Chinese travel ban

Taiwan has rebuked Beijing over a ban on individual travel permits which will stop allowing Chinese citizens to visit the self-ruled island amid heightened political tensions. Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen today said that the move aimed to manipulate the island’s presidential elections in January. While Taiwan’s Foreign Minister claimed Beijing appeared to be afraid of allowing its people to experience ‘a country where freedom, openness (and) tolerance are the order of the day’.
